Iraqi scholarships at the United World Colleges

How can there be peace without people understanding each other;

and how can this be if they don’t know each other?

Lester B. Pearson

Iraqi students who are now 14-18 years old can apply online for scholarships at the United World Colleges, within December 15, 2017.  They can get the option to spend the next two years of their life in one of the 17 schools situated in 4 continents, hosting students from all over the world. UWC is a global education movement that makes education a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future.

Starting this year, a UWC Iraqi National Committee composed of volunteer teachers, NGO workers and former UWC alumni, is spreading the call for applications and will run the selections for Iraqi applicants. The Committee is promoting widely in Iraq this educational model, which offers a life-changing experience to youth who share the UWC values:

  • International and intercultural understanding
  • Celebration of difference
  • Personal responsibility and integrity
  • Mutual responsibility and respect
  • Compassion and service
  • Respect for the environment
  • A sense of idealism
  • Personal challenge
  • Action and personal example

Central to the ethos of UWC is the belief that education can bring together young people from all backgrounds on the basis of their shared humanity, to engage with the possibility of social change through courageous action, personal example and selfless leadership. To achieve this, UWC schools and colleges all over the world deliver a challenging and transformational educational experience to a deliberately diverse group of young people.
