Girls and Women Caught Between Domestic Violence and Lockdown

The Iraqi Civil Society Solidarity Initiative (ICSSI) continues its live webinars: this time with a particular focus on women, in an effort to build cross-community solidarity and promote peace as well as human rights around the world. In the face of the political, social, and economic anguish caused by this pandemic, ICSSI in collaboration with She Revolution, an Iraqi feminist group which emerged during the recent uprising in Iraq to defend the rights of girls and women, is organizing a special webinar on the impact of coronavirus on women in Iraq and the United States in order to encourage solidarity and shared experiences.

With the help of our Iraqi and International experts, this webinar would highlight women’s experiences during the COVID-19, especially after series of reports showing that the violence against women has increased drastically across the world as a result of this global lockdown. The webinar would also examine the role of laws and other necessary protective measures taken to support women in this difficult time. Moreover, it would shed light on the work of women’s rights organizations, movements, and activists who have worked to bring light to recent revelations to ensure the safety and well-being of girls and women. The webinar will be held in English and Arabic, and later a report will be provided in both languages mentioned.
